South African Gourmet Food and Wine by Dorrance Publishing are a wonderful cookbook. I was from the central part of the beautiful photographs and delicious, what is the recipe is well spent for each ingredient first impression (no surprises halfway through a recipe), and all measurements are given in both standard and metric sizes, mark this section as the real international cookbook is!Although, as the authors explain in the very interesting front, South Africa, like the United States of America, a melting pot of different ethnic groups. Further perusal of the book certainly proves this statement: Middle Eastern dishes are featured, Italian sauces, Chinese Chicken Salad, and several beautiful cheesecake recipes.The traditional part of my family especially enjoyed bobotie, a spicy meat dish pan fried, then baked in a cream and served with rice and a delicious array of spices. Monkey Gland Steak, traditional recipes section definitely earning our attention! It’s not monkey glands, but is a recipe for a delicious BBQ sauce.We have discovered a few other favorites from the international section of the cookbook too.
